Tag Rugby Match Report!
Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby Report by Jemma H
After lunch on Thursday 20th October 2016, West Kidlington Primary School, Yr5 and Yr6 teams went to the tag rugby tournament. The afternoon was held at Gosford Hill Secondary School. Some of the year 10 students helped out by… being a ref, keeping track of the scores and going around with the teams (like being a mentor).
To start with, the man which was in charge gave each team a country, the Yr5 team was ITALY. After that was all sorted, he went through the rules, they were:
- You cant pass the ball forwards
- You are not allowed to dive
- You have to give the tag back, then play
- When you tag someone, put the tag above your head and shout TAG
- Only 3 girls and 3 boys from each team, on the pitch at any one time
So before they could start the first match they had to warm up. The warm up consisted of … running/jogging, heel flicks, high knees, side steps and lunges. After that the team did some passing and then they were all ready.
They got a quick drink then the first match started. They were up against Edward Feild (Wales). Our team was extremely good at getting the oppositions tags. We got the first point! They were doing some extremely good passes and the girls got very involved. At the end of that match, the score was 3-1 to us, well done!
Now the team is going to have a short break, so they can have a drink and a rest. After 7 minutes, the ref yelled “come on the pitch West Kidlington”. We played North Kidlington (France). We were playing very good, it was very close, the scores were in … it was 4-3 to us, yay!
We had about 10 minutes to have a rest and did some more skills. We did some passing and some more warm ups.
Now Italy had played some games, the team knew what they had to do. They were up against North Kidlington (New Zealand) now. They were all working as a team and everyone was stuck in. They were showing our values and following the values pact. The score was 4-0 to us.
When they came off they grabbed a drink and Mr Isherwood gave them a pep talk. They were now doing some throwing and catching. Even Mr Isherwood joined in, then took a tumble.
Next they played Dr South’s (Tonga). The team wasn’t playing as well this time though. Dr South’s team was very good but they kept diving, so it was better for Italy. Our players had to really step their game up if they wanted to win this. The score was 2-2, not bad but they would have to play really well if they wanted to win next.
No sooner they were back on to play their last match. They played Edward Feild (Argentina). Luckily we kept tagging the opposition. It was very close until the end. The score was 3-2 to us again.
Now a well deserved break. The man who was running the tournement explained what would happen next. So …
- Pitch 1 – 1st group A v 1st group B (for winners & runners up)
- Pitch 2 – 2nd group A v 2nd group B (for 3rd & 4th)
- Pitch 3 – 3rd group A v 3rd group B (for 5th & 6th)
- Pitch 4 – 4th group A v 4th group B (for 7th & 8th)
- Pitch 5 – 5th group A v 5th group B (for 9th & 10th)
West Kidlington (Italy) played on Pitch 1, so they could come 1st or 2nd overall – “come on!”
They played against Edward Feild (South Africa). We were playing our socks off but was it enough? Unfortunately the other team kept tripping our players up. West Kidlington (Italy) were playing very well but some of the players kept diving. Everyone definitely showed all their values! After the match was finished all of the players shook hands and everyone played extremely well.
We came second overall and everyone was so pleased!
OVER ALL ITALY CAME SECOND!
Well done to:
- Year 5
- West Kidlington
- Tag Rugby team
