Young Carers

A young carer is someone under the age of 18 years who may physically or emotionally care for someone in their family due to illness, disability or substance misuse.  West Kidlington Primary and Nursery School is committed to supporting young carers to access education and acknowledge that they and their families may need extra support.

At West Kidlington Primary School we are working towards the Bronze Standard Young Carers kite mark, awarded by Oxfordshire County Council for work with Young Carers.  We are aware that a number of our pupils take on a caring role at home and strongly believe that they have the right to equal access to education, regardless of what is happening at home for them.  We also believe that no child should have to take on the responsibility of an inappropriate or excessive caring role.
