Values

Values Based Learning

GlobeWest Kidlington Nursery and Primary Schools believe that Values based learning is crucial in promoting children’s social, emotional and academic welfare.

In the Nursery and Primary School, children will be introduced regularly to Values based vocabulary such as “peace” “happiness” “hope” “care” “love” “friendship” “respect” “honesty” and “patience”. In so doing, we are introducing our children to a method of understanding which can positively shape their behaviours and attitudes, as well as equipping them to cope with increasing social and academic pressures.

Values learningThrough story telling, reflection, positive adult role models and pupil led discussions, we hope to embed these values as part of children’s long term development. These early engagements are part of a wider strategy of both schools to ensure that children benefit fully from a “Values” based curriculum. If you would like to know more about this work, please read “A Quiet Revolution” and “A Quiet Revolution II” by Frances Farrer, (available at school) or go to

This values lead approach was begun by Dr Neil Hawkes who was the head teacher at West Kidlington School from 1993-2000. He is now an international consultant in Values Education and further information can be accessed via the web link below.
