SMSC Development

All schools in England must show how well their pupils develop in SMSC.

At West Kidlington Primary School and Nursery, we actively promote children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development through our broad and balanced curriculum.

What does this mean?

Spiritual

We explore beliefs and experience; respect faiths, feelings and values. We support children in understanding themselves, others and their surrounding world. We encourage our children to use their imagination, be creative and reflective.

Moral

We expect children to understand right from wrong; respect the law; understand consequences; investigate moral and ethical issues and offer reasoned views.

Social

We encourage and support our children to use a range of social skills; participate in their local community; appreciate diverse viewpoints; participate, volunteer and cooperate; resolve conflict; engage with the ‘British values‘ of democracy, the rule of law, liberty, respect and tolerance.

Cultural

We appreciate cultural influences; we appreciate the role of Britain’s parliamentary system; we encourage children to participate in culture opportunities; we understand, accept, respect and celebrate diversity.
