I would like to welcome you to West Kidlington Primary and Nursery School.
Please do take the time to look at our website; it will give you an insight into life at West Kidlington Primary and Nursery School. I would strongly encourage that you organise a visit to the school. The feeling you get when you are in the building is very special. The children thrive in the school. Our main expectations for the children, staff, and families is very simple — be kind and give your best. If these two simple things are followed, children will be happy and successful.
Result and Progress:
The school’s effort over the last three years is now being reflected in significantly improved outcomes and our Ofsted report reflected this. Our overall rating of Good was thoroughly deserved. Our Outstanding rating in personal development is something the whole school community is immensely proud of. We are clear about the next steps the school needs to make. We are hungry to continue to improve and make the school even better.
We have overseen major changes to our curriculum and approaches to teaching and learning – here we are continuously reflecting on our ability to provide quality feedback, ask incisive questions, and model to a very high standard. Our subject leaders within the school have a clear vision for each subject and we are working hard to enhance the offer in each subject. We recognise how important non-core subject teaching is and how it supports Maths, English and Science.
Our school building has been updated and provides a progressive feel to moving through the school. Our new outdoor area is a great feature in our two reception classrooms and our state-of-the-art upper-key stage 2 building provides children with a grown-up education.
Any prospective new parent is encouraged to get in touch, and we will make a personal appointment with you for a guided tour. This will give you the opportunity to ask questions, see the environment, look inside the classrooms and find out about the school and our approach to learning.
Our school improvement areas for 2022/2023 include:
- As a school, we need to make sure that we are making the most of all opportunities to develop cross-curricular links so that skills that pupils have learned in maths, reading and English are developed and applied in various contexts.
- To facilitate a Learning Champion Strategy where key Pupil Premium, SEN and vulnerable children are provided with extra-curricular 1:1 learning support and mentoring on a weekly basis.
- All Staff will be supported and trained to be reflective in their practice, really understand the children in their classes and be able to think on their feet in order to adapt to the needs of the individual child. Each teacher will need to have a ‘reasonable adjustment toolbox’ to be able to educate the individual child with resilience and flexibility.
We want our children to be so motivated and inspired that they create their own personal learning when they arrive home. When families ask what they learned today, we want children to be highly engaged in conversation.
We hope to welcome you to West Kidlington Primary and Nursery School very soon.
